What is Animal Digest?
First Definition:
Animal digest is a common ingredient used in pet foods. It is material which results from chemical and/or enzymatic hydrolysis of clean and undecomposed animal tissue. [1]
Second Definition (Clarification):
Animal digest means manure. Someone has collected the manure from another animal and put it in the pet food you are feeding your pet.
Disputes
Animal digest is materials treated with heat, enzymes and/or acids to form concentrated natural flavors. Only a small amount of a "chicken digest" is needed to produce "Chicken Flavored Cat Food," even though no actual chicken is added to the food.
Animal digest has been used in dog, cat and other kinds of pet foods for years.
