What are Black Truffles?
Black truffles also known as black Perigord truffles or Tuber melanosporum are a type of truffle named after the Périgord region in France and grow on oak and Hazelnut trees. [1]
In 1900, France produced around 1,000 metric tonnes (1,100 short tons) of Tuber melanosporum. [1]
