What is Cyanocobalamin?
Cyanocobalamin also known as Cyanobalamin or Cyanocobalamine is a synthetic vitamer (A vitamer is a single chemical from a group of chemicals that make up a vitamin.) of the B12 vitamin family. Cyanocobalamin has been used to treat vitamin deficiencies. [1]
How is Cyanocobalamin made?
Microbial fermentation yields adenosylcobalamin, which is then converted to cyanocobalamin by addition of potassium cyanide or thiocyanate in the presence of sodium nitrite and heat. [1]
