EDTA

What is EDTA?

EDTA is an abbreviation for ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid also known as Calcium Disodium EDTA. [1]

EDTA is synthetic and not found naturally. Because there is concern that EDTA may deplete important vitamins and minerals, EDTA chelation therapy is often administered together with essential nutrients (including B vitamins, vitamin C, and magnesium). [2]

Health Disputes

EDTA has been found to be both cytotoxic and weakly genotoxic in laboratory animals. Oral exposures have been noted to cause reproductive and developmental effects. [1]
