What is Rebiana?
Rebiana is the trade name for high-purity rebaudioside A, a Steviol glycoside which when used as a non-nutritive sweetener is 200 times sweeter than sugar. [1]
It is the primary source of sweetness in the Truvia sweetener brand. Rebiana is derived from Stevia leaves by steeping them in water. [1]
Rebiana was developed by Japanese scientists back in 1971. [2]
In the US, Reb-A (but not stevia) was added to the generally recognized as safe (GRAS) list in December 2008. [2]
