What is Zinc Oxide?

Zinc oxide is a chemical compound commonly known as zinc white. Zinc oxide occurs in nature as the mineral zincite.

How is Zinc Oxide Used in Food?

Zinc oxide is added to many breakfast cereals, as a source of zinc; a necessary nutrient. (Other cereals may contain zinc sulfate, for the same purpose.) Some prepackaged foods also include trace amounts. [1]
